At the last public session of Council, TBL confirmed the awarding of an $874,000 contract to the Quebec firm BSL for the construction of two bridges to complete the walking path between Knowlton and Foster.

“It took 30 years to accomplish,’’ said Mayor Richard Burcombe when council finally voted to accept the resolution. The building of the bridges on the old railroad track over the lake has been on the agenda of many town administrations in the past.

The new bridges will be similar to the ones built a couple of years ago over the Quilliams on the same walking path. Their installation will however be very different from anything ever built in this town. The structures will be installed by helicopter in order not to damage the fragile environment of the lake with heavy machinery. The operation is scheduled to take place late this summer and the completion of the project is expected to be no later than the fall.
