If like 3700 residents of the area, you find yourself an “orphan’’ patient or without a family physician, here is what you have to do get a new one or rather how to get yourself on a waiting list for a doctor.

The easiest way is to go online at gamf.gouv.qc.ca. The service is bilingual. Then click on ‘Register to the waiting list’, read the conditions, then click on ‘start’. You will be asked to enter your health insurance card number, its expiry date and your postal code. Then click ‘continue’. You will be asked general questions about your level of health, click ‘continue’ and the system will tell you how long your wait is going to be. As of early April, the wait time mentioned in most requests was around 220 days.

Alternatively, if you prefer using the phone, the number for La Pommeraie Social Services Centre is 450-266-4342 ext. 35695. You may have to wait before getting an answer.

If you do not have easy access to a computer, tablet or smart phone to go online, the Pettes Library has computers for public use during its open hours.
