Born in Quebec City on March 31, 1928, Yvette Laplante was the fourth child of a family of seven. In 1952, at the Hôpital Saint- François d’Assise, she got her diploma in nursing. Her empathy towards patients as well as her colleagues quickly set her apart.
She met Michel Morin for the first time at the Plage du Foulon where, as teenagers, they went swimming during their summer holidays in the 40s. They met again in 1951 on the porch of Saint-Roch church in Quebec. Yvette’s smile absolutely charmed her future husband.
In 1985, she and Michel settled in Knowlton where, with the help of their three children Pierre, Patrick and Lucie together with Renée, their stepdaughter, they built their own home, their pride and love. Yvette had a green thumb, especially helpful when your name is Laplante!
In 1988, Yvette became a volunteer at the Pettes Commemorative Library where she continued to volunteer until her retirement at Manoir Lac Brome in 2018.
With her keen sense of observation and her dexterity, Yvette developed a passion for watercolours. In cooperation with Marie Desmarchais et Julienne Saint-François, she created ‘L’Artentrenous’. To this day, this bilingual group of artists is thriving.
Yvette left us on May 2, 2020. She formed a happy couple with her husband Michel for 67 years. We will also remember her as a caring and attentive person. Not to forget her contagious smile!
We extend our deepest sympathy to Yvette’s family and more especially to Michel, who is a valued Tempo volunteer.
