Don Wing, who represented Foster on the Council of the Town of Brome Lake from 1999 to 2003, has died at the age of 85. Don was a retired insurance broker who lived close  to the lake.

Louise, his wife of 54 years, said her husband was passionate about the lake.

Donald William Wing was born in Montreal, but spent a lot of time at Brome Lake as a boy because his grandparents were here. “He was christened at the little church in Foster,” said Mrs. Wing.

Don worked as an insurance adjuster and broker in Montreal. He and his wife bought their property on Brome Lake in 1976 and moved out here full time in 1995. Both Don and Louise were active members of the Lions Club and were involved with Meals on Wheels.

He served one term on council, and his fellow council members remember him as devoted to the local environment and a man who avoided confrontation.

“He took his time and he thought things through,” said Cynthia Wilkinson, who served on council with Don. “The lake was very important to him. He was very into saving Brome Lake.”

Don Wing was healthy until the last day of his life when he felt weak and suffered a stroke.

He is survived by his wife Louise, his son Bill, of Fisher’s Point, son John who lives in Vancouver and two granddaughters, Sara and Magaly.
