Cynthia Jennings Chalk, a well-known photographer and resident of Manoir Lac Brome for the past eight years, is celebrating her 103rd birthday on December 9.

Chalk’s photographs have appeared across Canada, including in Reader’s Digest and such diverse publications as the Anglican Church calendar. Some of her work is archived at the National Film Board.

Much of her work focuses on capturing the beauty of landscapes and nature. In the 1970s and 1980s, Chalk travelled to Bathurst Inlet in the Kitikmeot Region of Canada’s Nunavut Territory in the far north, to capture the breathtaking landscapes. She is a member of the Montreal Camera Club.

Married in 1936 to Henry Chalk, with three children, she has lived in several cities in her lifetime, including Ottawa, Halifax, and Montreal.

Chalk has had many interests over the years. She was a Girl Guide leader and also was a member of Montreal’s first-ever moto-cycle club for women.
