John Conner, who has died at the age of 94, was a well- known resident of Knowlton for more than 40 years. He was a keen sportsman, and was a member of the Knowlton Golf Club, where he was treasurer for several years. He also taught skiing at Glen Mountain when it was open. John was born in Kitchener,  Ontario, April 16, 1924. He died at home in Knowlton on December 5, 2018.

John was a graduate of Queen’s University and was a pilot with the RCAF and RAF in the Second World War, flying Spitfires and Typhoon fighter aircraft over Europe. Though he was proud of his wartime effort, he felt wars were immoral and a terrible waste of human life, on both sides. John was a successful businessman and worked on an early version of mobile tele- phones. He taught business administration at McGill University. He and his wife Shirley moved to Knowlton in 1976 and were both active in the community. Among other things John ran the local campaign for the Canadian Red Cross. John was a first class bridge player and played golf at the Knowlton Golf Club right up to this last season.

He is survived by his wife Shirley, four children and seven grandchildren.
