The Brome Lake Town Council has undertaken a complete overhaul of its urban planning bylaw, scheduled for completion in the fall of 2027.
To this end, it has tabled a notice of motion for the adoption of the first draft of bylaw 596-20, which amends zoning bylaw 596. This amendment proposes, among other things, to modify the definition of building height (in metres), increase the maximum permitted height for buildings with walk-out basements, and modify the specifications for certain waterfront areas along Brome Lake in order to limit the degradation of the shoreline’s landscape and water quality, as well as impermeability and runoff. A public consultation meeting on the changes was planned for February 23, after the March issue of Tempo was set to go to press.
Infrastructure Investments and Environmental Measures
Another notice of motion was filed for by-law 2026-03 authorizing an expenditure of $7,900,000, the allocation of $1,500,000 from the fund for the repair and maintenance of certain public roads and the borrowing of $4,564,741 to finance the repair of Fulford Road.
The council also announced progress in carrying out work at pumping station 12 in Bondville and its intention to implement the corrective measures recommended by the Foster Dam safety assessment report.
In response to a citizen’s question, Mayor Patterson emphasized the importance of strictly following the recycling guidelines to avoid contaminating recyclable materials. For more information on what to put in the blue bin, TBL’s website links to MRC information.
