Across faiths and traditions, April 2026 overflows with religious observance. Easter, Passover, Ridvan, Vaisakhi and Theravada New Year all converge in this season of warming days and increased light. Though rooted in different histories, these celebrations share similar themes: liberation, reflection, resurrection and new beginnings.
Faith and Meaning
If you are among the faithful, you are fortunate. These ancient narratives — of freedom, divine revelation, harvest and grace — offer something very precious: a framework for hope and meaning of life. They remind us that darkness gives way to dawn and that the human story bends toward meaning. In an era of unrest, with war ravaging the Middle East, Ukraine and too many other corners of the globe, that narrative matters enormously.
For those without religious faith, this season presents a harder challenge. When the news delivers a relentless stream of political callousness and violence and the world seems indifferent to human suffering, it is very hard to feel any optimism at all. The distance between spring’s promise and reality can seem impossible to bridge.
And yet: The snow is melting. Gardens are stirring back to life. Days are growing warmer and brighter with each passing week. Nature, indifferent to hatred and politics, is renewing.
Gratitude and Perspective
We are fortunate to live in a peaceful community — one where we enjoy safety, freedom, and the simple privilege of ordinary life. That is not nothing. In a world where millions would give everything for what we take for granted, gratitude is not complacency; it is clarity.
Whatever your beliefs, this is a time to resist despair. It is within our power to make our community a better place — to look after our families and neighbours, to be generous and kind, to acknowledge and value good. The world’s problems are real, but so is kindness and empathy. It is important to never lose sight of that.
Celebrating New Beginnings
Find something that makes you celebrate new beginnings — a walk through the woods or beside the lake, a meal shared with friends or people you love, a moment of reflection on good things in your life and hopes for the future.
Happy Easter. Happy Passover. Enjoy this time of year.
