Library expansion fundraising: almost there

Board of Pettes Memorial Library

The public campaign to raise funds to expand the Pettes Memorial Library has almost reached its objective of $1.5 million. At the time of going to press, donations had reached $1,425,000.

This speaks volumes about the generosity of our community’s patrons. Recently the Library received a $500,000 donation from new residents of Brome Lake Mr. Alain Bédard and Mrs. Johanne Bédard, respectively President and CEO and Vice-président, Marketing and Communication of Transforce International, a multinational transport and logistics company.

“In our family, getting involved in the community is a fundamental value. As new residents of Brome Lake, it is important for us to take part in the life of our village and to contribute to this superb project that will enrich the lives of all those who live in our region,” said Mr. Bédard.

Mr. Laurent Beaudoin and Mrs. Claire Beaudoin long-time citizens of Brome Lake, contributed $200,000 towards the realisation of the expansion project. “The quality of life of the community we belong to is important to us. This project will increase the services and the tools of learning aimed at the citizens of Brome Lake and its vicinity,” added Mr. Beaudoin.

These generous donations come on top of other major contributions received during the silent campaign from the Town of Brome Lake: $1M; Louise Penny: $600,000; Leslie and Jennifer Jonas: $300,000; Le Fonds du grand mouvement Desjardins: $250,000; Claire Léger: $250,000.

The Chairman of the fundraising campaign, Leslie K. Jonas, is delighted with the generosity of the community and that of the many volunteers who met and solicited potential donors. Without them, this would not have been possible. Our objective is not fully met yet and nothing prevents us from exceeding our goal,’’ he said.
