TBL Council – May 2023

Francine Bastien

Mayor Richard Burcombe chaired the meeting in the presence of all councillors. About twenty citizens were present in the audience.

The zoning bylaw will be reviewed and adopted later following the comments expressed by citizens during the consultation session held on April 27.

The treasurer presented the town’s financial report as of December 31, 2022.

The latter confirms the significant surplus of $2,961,000 for the town, largely ($1,864,000) attributable to income generated by the welcome tax resulting from “the explosion in the construction and sale of properties in 2022”. Of this surplus, $1M will be devoted to road repairs and $289,000 will be allocated to the modernization of the sewer network and the treatment of waste water.

The town’s debt reached $16,497,000, a burden borne 81% by the citizens.

A $27,700 contract has been awarded to the firm Maurice Marine for boat washing at Camping des Érables.

Several bylaws, such as the one on construction, subdivision and minor exemptions could give rise to the holding of a referendum before being amended.

The organization Conservation Lac Brome received annual financial assistance of $65,000.

The Tour du Lac Brome will take place from June 15 to 19. Filming for a TV series will take place at various locations between May 29 and June 21.

Next session: Monday, June 5 at 7 p.m. at the CLB
