Partial reopening of CLSC Lac-Brome
Mayor Richard Burcombe chaired the meeting in the presence of all the councillors, the Clerk and the Director General. About fifteen citizens were present.
The mayor announced that the CLSC of Lac-Brome would reopen two days a week starting October 15. (See article p. 5).
Questions – A citizen expressed concern about the reduction in adult French language courses offered by the Eastern Townships School Board despite an increase in registrations. She is requesting that the council intervene. The mayor also expressed concern about the situation and committed to lobbying for the program to be maintained and to alerting all mayors in the Brome-Missisquoi MRC. Administration – The municipality will return to tender for the construction of the future fire station. Too much time has passed since the production of the existing estimates in 2020.
Miscellaneous – TBL’s contribution to the Brome-Missisquoi Housing Office is increasing by $4,000 to reach a total of $12,000 this year.
Urban Planning and Environment – Several new construction projects are planned on Rue des Bouleaux. In its report, the Environment Committee indicated that 1,250 boats were cleaned this summer before sailing in Brome Lake. The majority of these boats belonged to non-residents who navigate on several bodies of water. The committee requested a meeting with Transport Canada to study the possibility of limiting navigation in sensitive areas of Brome Lake. The inspection of septic installations this year showed that approximately 2% of them are not compliant.
Public Safety – There were 276 interceptions on Brome Lake this summer. The majority involved paddlers who were not equipped with the necessary safety equipment.
Leisure, tourism, and community life – According to organizers present at the session, the Walk to fight all cancers held on October 6 raised $87,000.
