The Renewal of East Bolton: An Inspiring Village

The Renewal of East Bolton: An Inspiring Village

By Nathalie Rivard

East Bolton, a small municipality nestled in the Eastern Townships, has transformed itself into a vibrant, innovative community where agriculture, culture, and community solidarity go hand in hand.

A wave of new initiatives is energizing the village and attracting both residents and curious visitors intrigued by its inspiring renewal.

Rucher Boltonnois: Culture and Community at the Core

At the heart of this renaissance is Rucher Boltonnois, a local organization that:

  • Operates a small live venue known for its intimate cultural evenings
  • Organizes ambitious and engaging community-based projects

The most recent of these is the acquisition of Ferme 785, a 14-acre property on Missisquoi Road. Funded through community bonds, the project has galvanized local citizens into transforming the land into a model for sustainable and collective agriculture.

Ferme 785: A Hub of Regenerative Agriculture

Part of the farm is leased to Pâturages du Lac Brome, previously based in Foster, which specializes in pasture-raised livestock and regenerative agriculture.

Meanwhile, Rucher Boltonnois manages the market gardens and greenhouse, with the hands-on support of local volunteers. It also includes beehives in the areas of Bolton-Est and Austin—a nod to the collective strength of bees.

“We draw inspiration from the collective strength of bees to carry out major projects—one small drop of nectar at a time,”
— says Rucher president Alain Déry

Summer at Parc Terrio

During the summer months, Parc Terrio becomes a lively public market, showcasing:

  • Local food
  • Artisan products
  • A Bistro
  • Outdoor musical performances every Saturday

It’s a vibrant hub that reflects the community’s creative spirit.

Jardins de Bolton: Local Goodness Year-Round

Just down the road, Jardins de Bolton is another cornerstone of local agriculture. Known for:

  • Free-range eggs
  • Seasonal vegetables and local food
  • Its self-service kiosk (open year-round)
  • And its famous pizza nights each friday during the summer — combining fresh ingredients, a country setting, and gourmet fun. This summer, they’ll also be offering “tables champêtres” experiences set in the fields.

A Village Rooted in the Future

What makes East Bolton’s renewal so remarkable is its strong sense of community, combined with a modern vision rooted in sustainability and innovation.

This village is proving that it’s possible to preserve rural heritage while embracing collective resilience and forward-thinking practices.
