Knowlton Literary Festival Returns — October 16 to 18

The prestigious Knowlton Literary Festival returns to town, Oct. 16 to 18, with a line-up of authors you won’t want to miss. It gets under way with a celebration of local authors at Brome Lake Books:

  • Jamie Moar
  • Bob Morrell
  • Ronald Myles
  • Kira Nightingale

This event is free, but registration is required.

School Presentations

As part of its school programming:

  • Montreal-based author and documentary filmmaker Megan Durnford, who just published Our Plastic Problem: A Call for Global Solutions, will meet students at Knowlton Academy on Oct. 17.
  • Canadian Geographic columnist, Robin Esrock will present to students at Massey Vanier.

The opening reception on Oct. 17, also feature Escrock, speaking about his new book, The Great Canadian Bucket List.

Saturday Afternoon Author Sessions

Saturday’s events kick off with :

  • Eliza Reid, Iceland’s First Lady, in conversation with Louise Penny, the Festival’s Honorary Patron. Reid draws upon her diplomatic experience in the writing of Death on an Island published earlier this year.
  • Ausma Zehanat Khan in conversation with Wendy Mesley, former CBC host and journalist. Ausma is a prolific, multi-genre author of mystery and humor.
  • Beverley McLachlin, the longest serving Chief Justice of Canada and the first woman to hold that title, is also an acclaimed mystery writer. Her latest bestseller, Proof, is the third in a series about public-defender-cum-detective Jilly Truitt. Beverley will be in conversation with Roger Williams, retired literature professor..

Closing Saturday Night

Expect an evening of music and conversation with co-founder of the group Great Big Sea, Sean McCann and his wife Andrea Aragon. Their non-fiction bestseller, One Good Reason, is a memoir of overcoming challenge.

    Concert at The Thirsty Boot

    West Bolton’s venerable roadhouse The Thirsty Boot regularly books live bands on the weekend.
    The date to mark this season is Oct. 11, when Montreal rock institution Shane Murphy returns to tear the place down.
