Brome Bright Lights short story contest

Susan Jacques

It is that time of year again. Time to start planning for the fifteenth year of the Brome Bright Lights short story contest. The goal of Brome Lake Books, 2022’s sponsor, is to foster a love of stories, writing and creativity. Last year, 100 entries were received and it is hoped to exceed that number this year. The contest is open to elementary level children (grades 1 – 6) in the Brome Missisquoi area. Stories must be under 800 words, written in English, and be works of the student’s imagination. They will be judged on originality, good stortelling, vocabulary and grammar.

Entry forms (and information) may be obtained by sending an email to bromelakebooks@gmail.com or picking them up at the bookshop. Entries should be dropped off at Brome Lake Books no later than Friday, April 22. Winners will be announced at the end of May. There is a $50 first prize and $25 second prize for each grade level and an additional $200 to the grand prize winner. It is hoped that many positive and inspiring stories will be received to counteract all the nastiness in the world.
