Owners Anita Bombita and Nils Fluck are passionate about art. “We started Blanka because we have lots of friends who are established contemporary artists,” says Nils. It was autumn 2022, a time when people were looking for ways to pull themselves up and out of the pandemic. “We asked — If we open a gallery, could we represent you? And here we are,” Anita continues.
“It’s more like a collaboration with artists than a business.” And the result is something extraordinary. Globetrotters as well as art lovers, Anita and Nils have drawn inspiration from some of the many galleries they have visited on their travels, which explains the creative concept that is Blanka: a multi-purpose space, offering a surprising and extremely pleasurable experience. Call it an adventure.

A four-act play?
They describe it this way. Through the front door lies Act 1: a sun-splashed gallery, alive with an impressive display of contemporary works. Some are by local artists, but the only criterion at Blanka is quality. A charming boutique offers a carefully curated collection of affordable treasures from around the world. Through the door at the rear, Act 2: an inviting enclosed garden. Relax. Have a seat or stroll right through to Act 3: where the gallery briefly becomes a welcoming galleria. Travel a century back in time, to the far side of the world. Finally, Act 4: you’ve arrived in New York. The walls are hung with a stunning and varied exhibit of contemporary works of art. Again, the quality is truly exceptional. Every bit worth the trip.
A living art space
Blanka is evolving. Its community of followers has been growing quietly, steadily since it opened. “People are surprised to see who we have in terms of established artists,” Nils says. “We are becoming a destination for that.” A unique and inspiring venue, Blanka also hosts private and cultural events, and provides studio space for Nils, an artist in his own right. Part of the vision, in time, is to take Blanka to art fairs, starting close to home in Montreal, and then… “Who knows?” the couple says. “What we are doing is building a base.”
In the meantime, Anita and Nils invite you to come experience an artistic adventure. For news and upcoming events, check out the calendar at galerieblanka.com.
