DCS Garage: Darren and Carolyn Pass the Torch
By Robert Paterson
In early March, Darren Paige and Carolyn Lemaire surprised their loyal customers by announcing the sale of their beloved garage, DCS, to Dalton Charby.
Darren will stay on for the next six months to ensure a smooth transition, and all existing mechanics will remain on staff — a reassuring detail for longtime clients. The garage remains in experienced hands, as Charby already operates a successful garage in Waterloo.
What Happened?
Success often comes with unexpected challenges. When Carolyn left her position at BMO to join Darren at DCS, she thought she’d take on a part-time bookkeeping role. But together, the two built something much more: a thriving local business and a pillar of the community.
Thanks to their charm, reliability, and hard work, DCS became the go-to garage for many residents.
As more people moved into town — often with two or three cars per household — demand exploded. But strangely, the pool of available mechanics shrank. The result? Long hours, seven days a week.
“We always planned to sell after 15 years,” Darren told Tempo.
“But 11 years in, an unexpected offer came our way.”
The decision was far from easy.
“We struggled with this,” Carolyn admitted.
“Our staff and customers were always our top priority.”
What’s Next?
For now, Darren and Carolyn don’t have concrete plans.
“We’re open to new possibilities,” Carolyn said with a smile.
Whatever comes next, one thing is certain:
DCS made a lasting impact on the town — one that won’t be forgotten any time soon.
