All council members were present, with approximately nine residents attending either in person or via Zoom.
🏛️ Town Hall Renovation
Council has submitted a request to the Commission de protection du territoire agricole du Québec (CPTAQ) to approve the severance of about one acre of hayfield next to the Town Hall. This land would be used to renovate the Town Hall and install a well and septic system.
- The CPTAQ’s preliminary response was negative
- Council plans to appeal the decision
- A public petition may be organized if necessary
🏗️ Urban Planning
- Six permits were issued this month
- Total value: $62,000
🐶 Dog Licensing
Council announced a new agreement with the SPA (Animal Protection Society) to enforce the dog-licensing bylaw.
➡️ If you own a dog, please contact Town Hall to register with the SPA.
🚛 Roads
- Thawing period extends until May 13
- Residents are asked to schedule all heavy truck deliveries after this date to prevent damage to gravel roads
🌉 Bridge Repairs
The Argyll Road bridge over McLaughlin Creek will be closed for major repairs in June and July (approx. 8 weeks).
- The bridge was originally built in 1963 and resurfaced in 2001
- A detour route will be required
🌲 Environment – Month of Trees and Forests
May is “Month of Trees and Forests” in West Bolton.
🌱 Want to plant trees on your property?
Email Town Hall with your request, specifying:
- The species
- The number of trees desired
Available species may include:
- Sugar Maple
- Yellow Birch
- Norway Spruce
- White Spruce
- White Pine
- Red Pine
📚 Library Access
The agreement with the Town of Brome Lake has been renewed, allowing West Bolton residents to continue using the Pettes Memorial Library in Knowlton free of charge.
