A marathon of information sessions about Hydro-Québec’s proposed substation and power line was held on April 4 in Cowansville.
More than 20 Hydro representatives were present to address questions and concerns arising from the initial proposal to build a large substation in the Sutton Junction area.
Project Overview
Hydro-Québec is proposing:
- A new substation between Knowlton and Sutton
- The substation would handle up to 230 kilovolts of electricity
- It would be fed by a new power line supported by 45-metre-high towers
This project aims to strengthen power delivery in the region and is part of a broader plan to build a total of five new substations in this part of the Eastern Townships.
A final decision regarding the details and location is expected this fall.
Community Concerns
Some residents closely following the project express concerns that Hydro-Québec may not be sufficiently considering community input in the development process.
