July

All members of council were present. There were 10 in the audience.

Public Safety

Racoons and other wild animals in the region may have rabies.
Do not pick up dead animals and beware of any animals with aggressive behavior.

All boats should be cleaned before putting them in the water to avoid the spread of introduced species or disease.

Town Planning

  • 14 permits with a total value of $390,000 were issued in June.
  • Requests for two minor derogations were approved.
  • One was refused.

Administration

  • Accounts payable for June were approved.
  • The Auditors 2024 financial report was tabled and will be on the municipal website.

Roads and Infrastructure

  • New speed limit signs have been installed on roads where limits have been lowered.
  • The intersection of Bailey and Spicer is now a 4-way stop.

Other decisions

  • West Bolton has agreed to support a program developed by the Yamaska River Drainage Basin (Organisme de Bassin Versant (OBV) de la Yamaska) to protect the Wood Turtle. Information is available at town hall.
  • Council agreed to implement the fire danger control program developed by the MRC.
  • Council also agreed to allow the annual 1500-person “100aB7” cycling event (September 20–21) to pass through West Bolton.

August

All members of council were present. There were 14 in the audience.

Public Transport

The MRC has established a 1-year pilot project to provide scheduled bus service to towns and villages in the MRC.

Town Planning

  • Several permits for construction or renovation of houses were issued. Total value in excess of $2 million.
  • Requests for minor derogations at 81 Paramount, 86 Paramount, and 14 Cousens were approved.
  • A request for a minor derogation at 43 Bailey was refused.

CPTAQ Appeal

The meeting with the CPTAQ to appeal its decision to refuse approval of the purchase of a small section of the field adjacent to the town hall was held by Zoom on Wednesday, July 16.
The meeting was polite, and the town’s presentations were received respectfully. The CPTAQ will consider the town’s request and issue its decision at the end of August.

Roads and Infrastructure

  • Work to replace the surface of the bridge over McLaughlin Creek on Argyll Rd. has been completed.
  • Minor road repairs will be carried out on several roads – drive with care.
  • Four culverts will be replaced:
    • 2 on Stukely
    • 1 on Mizener
    • 1 at the junction of Brill and Bailey
