The October 5 provincial election seems far off, but things are already starting to heat up. In May, some 200 people attended a fundraiser at the Lakeview Inn for Frédéric Beauchemin, who will be the Liberal candidate in our riding of Brome-Missisquoi. Brome-Missisquoi is the riding that Beauchemin, the Liberal MNA for Marguerite-Bourgeoys since 2022, calls home.
A Seat Without an Incumbent
Isabelle Charette, who has represented Brome-Missisquoi since 2018 for the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ), has announced she is not running for office in the October election. Candidates for the CAQ, the Parti Québécois, and other parties have not yet been identified.
Currently, Liberals and the Parti Québécois are neck-and-neck in provincial polls, well ahead of the CAQ. Prior to Charette, Brome-Missisquoi was a Liberal stronghold, with Pierre Paradis serving as the riding’s MNA for 38 years.
Beauchemin’s Priorities
Beauchemin says his top priorities are supporting local businesses, protecting the agricultural life of the area, and improving access to health and social services. He also plans to embrace policies that respect the bilingual and welcoming culture of the region.
